F1, F1b, and multigen

Generation labels follow the usual doodle shorthand: Petful’s goldendoodle generation guide (https://www.petful.com/dog-breeds/goldendoodle-generations/) and the same F1 / F1b / F2 / multigen definitions used across doodle breeders. None of them is a health grade.

F1

A first cross: one parent is a poodle, the other is the second breed. About half and half. Coats in one litter can range from wavy to curly.

F1b

An F1 bred back to a poodle. About three-quarters poodle. Usually curlier, and often the generation families pick when shedding is the worry. It is a tendency, not a guarantee.

F2

Two F1 doodles bred together. Still about half poodle on paper, and often the least predictable coats.

Multigen

Later doodle-to-doodle breeding. A settled line can be more consistent. The word alone does not promise a coat.

Shared coat words — apricot, red, cream, chocolate, black, white, parti, phantom, merle, sable, tri — are the ones Petful lists for poodle mixes. Merle comes from a merle parent such as an Australian shepherd, not from the poodle standard. A dark puppy can lighten.

Size note: AKC Poodle standard for the size classes. “Micro” is not an official variety.
